U.S. immigration regulations require all international students in F-1 status to maintain full-time enrollment throughout their studies. At Harrisburg University, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits each semester, with a minimum of 9 credits in fully in-person courses (not virtual or online).
F-1 undergraduate students must also maintain at least 80% in-person attendance in their courses to maintain valid F-1 status. Students who fall below 80% attendance will be reported to the International Student Office. Failure to meet attendance requirements will result in SEVIS record termination, which requires immediate departure from the United States.
As a reminder, F-1 visa regulations require students to attend classes and make consistent academic progress. Attending classes in-person is mandatory. Virtual or online attendance does not fulfill F-1 status requirements.
If you are experiencing extenuating circumstances that may cause excessive absences, you may submit documentation for review. However, submission of documentation does not guarantee that the SEVIS record will remain active.
If you experience an extenuating circumstance beyond your control that prevents you from attending in person, contact the International Student Office immediately for guidance and support.
